Standard-Knapp is joining the End of Line Packaging Experts
Portland, CT, USA / Kirchlengern, Germany, July 16th 2019. Standard-Knapp (S-K) based in Portland, USA, announced today that its shareholders have reached an agreement to sell the company to EoL Packaging Experts (EoL), to which the German company A+F Automation + Fördertechnik (A+F) belongs. This merger creates a globally active industry leader for end-of-line packaging machines and systems with an established presence in America and in Europe.
The acquisition represents a compelling fit with EoL‘s strategic plan of being a market leader in the provision of end-of-line packaging solutions for the food and beverage industry. Standard-Knapp and A+F both provide a strong basis representing the full value chain with new machine sales, engineering, manufacturing and an own service organization. The product portfolio is fully focused on customized high speed end-o-line packaging machines and 100% complementary. This will enable EoL to expand with both product portfolios to the U.S. and European market. Furthermore, the worldwide sales and service organizations can be utilized by both companies. Group-wide competence centers like the A+F digital packaging competence center, the S-K shrink wrapping competence center or the A+F palletizing competence center will enable the EoL group to fully utilize its technological competence.
“As a leading US company of case, tray and shrink packaging machinery solutions we are proud what our team has accomplished over the past decades. By joining EoL, we will be part of a strong international group to reinforce our technological leadership. I see EoL as the right organisation to successfully ensure the future of Standard-Knapp in the long-term. At the same time it will help us to deliver more value to our customers,” said Mike Weaver, President of Standard-Knapp.
Robert Roiger, CEO of A+F and EoL Packaging Experts, said: “With Standard-Knapp joining EoL customers will benefit from improved responsiveness delivered by our full presence in America and Europe. It is an ideal complement to A+F and will help us to improve and shorten the development processes, stay closer to our customer’s plants to better serve them. We are excited about Standard-Knapp joining EoL and look forward to the benefits and synergies this merger will bring.”
Standard-Knapp was founded in 1890 and is the first company that provided secondary packaging solutions in the U.S. Since then the company has grown into a leading US manufacturer of end of line packaging machines with a focus on the food and beverage industry.
A+F was founded in 1974 and is a leading supplier of end-of-line packaging machines and systems and enjoys a high reputation worldwide for the expertise in designing high-quality packaging solutions. Lots of visitors at the Empack 2019 in s´Hertogenbosch NL confirm A+F approach
Many thanks to everyone who visited the A+F booth at the Empack 2019 in s´Hertogenbosch!
This time A+F presented the FlexLine, an innovative pick and place machine concept. The machine recognizes the products to be packed using a 3D cam system. Our team explained the advantage of this technology and where it is used best.
Whether we have chocolate bars, small cartons, cups, pouches or sticks, the machine will identify position and type of product, pick them up and place accordingly. A big success was also the presentation of the A+F Condition Monitoring. Our customers were surprised how easy it can be to monitor complex systems never loosing critical points of production out of sight. Downtime is significantly lower or avoided all together.
The successful participation at the Empack 2019 has proven again the innovative and forward-looking product portfolio as well as the cost saving potential of A+F Digital Packaging. Never before was investing into the future more rewarding.
Only 1,5 hours from Hengelo A+F is close by when it comes to delivery and service. Customer orientation, flexibility and rapid response times describe the nature of A+F services.

See next steps into the future!
Visit us on the 3rd or 4th of April at the Empack 2019 exhibition in s´Hertogenbosch, Netherlands.
We invite you to visit the A+F booth 1D146 to experience our A+F Packaging machine FlexLine 3D live.
This packaging unit is capable of creating trays, packages or wrap-around cartons allowing the flexible change of formats. Products will be identified using a 3D camera.
Whether we are talking about cartons, bags, sticks, bars, deep drawn parts or other products – all are identified by the 3D camera system then positioned and placed in the carton. This technology enables a very gentle product handling.
The system can produce a large number of carton variations, for example trays, wrap-around cartons or boxes. The various carton formats will be pre-glued in the integrated tray erector using hot melt glue.
Actuators enable the operator to adjust the system fully automatic. The use of format change parts and the change time will be reduced to a minimum.
The packing is done by a 4-achses Delta 3 robot with specific grippers. These can be replaced using a quick change mechanism. The number of Delta 3 robots used, determines the speed and output of the machine.
Computer controlled, the products will be placed in one or more layers in the open carton. When the preset quantity of product is packed, the carton will go through the closing unit. The carton can be marked with a barcode, the best before date or other information. The pack will then be conveyed to the palletizing station.
Discover Digital Packaging – in particular the module Condition Monitoring. It provides insight into your machine by gathering data of the machine, production and machine environment. These are saved, archived and made available using the A+F Dashboard.
You have plans to change the way you do your packaging? We are glad to provide insight into the necessary technology and help you to find the right solution.
Please schedule a meeting using our mailbox: email@example.com. We are looking forward to see you in s´Hertogenbosch.

An “Appetizer” for you!
The End of Line experts thank you for your commitment in 2018 and look forward to a continued good cooperation in 2019! As an “appetizer” now, a great project from last year.
In two steps, an all-in package for a customer from England was put together successfully. 3 final packing lines were delivered.
In the first step, a tray-erector type MultiFormer and a third-generation SetLine sleeving system were commissioned at the customer site. Here, 4 and 6 cup sets are wrapped in sleeves and placed into the preformed tray. The challenge was the very short project lead-time. This was implemented through optimal standardization. A + F has built over 60 pieces of this machine category in the last years and is the market leader in this flexible, high-performance segment.
In the second step, two lines for packaging cups in pillow wraps were delivered and put into operation. The latest generation of FlexLine picks up the cups (also for different flavours) with a special gripper in several tracks and groups them. The cups can be placed on a bottom sheet either side by side or one above the other.
The stacks thus formed will be packed in the integrated film machine into a pillow wrap. A separate format-flexible MultiFormer erects the trays.
The supplied pillow wraps are grouped by the integrated TwinLine and will be packed in the trays. As another option, the cups can be placed directly into the tray. The finished products will be delivered to the palletizing equipment. All systems are equipped with the module A + F Condition Monitoring. This system enables the continuous evaluation of faults and makes the line efficiencies permanently transparent in an overview.
We thank all participants for the good cooperation and look forward to further joint projects.Stay up to date and find out more at www.LinkedIn.de.We look forward to you!
